Scary moments yesterday…

About 10 minutes after I let my grandparents house yesterday in Iowa, my grandma fell and badly broke her shoulder (the ball was broken clean of the bone in the socket). She was in the hospital most of the day yesterday but was home on heavy drugs last night. She is in a ton of pain, and I am headed the 3 hours back tomorrow morning to help take care of her and my grandpa (also ailing- he has lung, heart and knee issues that keep him homebound) until Friday, then will be back again next Tuesday-Friday.

Please say a little prayer for my grandma that the surgery will go smoothly and that I can have patience and understanding during my time at their house– usually 2 days is as long as I can handle them (but I am SO of course happy to be able to help them.)

I will post as I can.

Wii Wii Wii all the way home…

Who’s home??? TO MY HOME!!!

The most wonderful thing happened… Anna from www.runwiththefishes.com emailed me and let me know she would look to see if her local WalMart had a Wii after my last post. Well, the next day she emailed me to let me know her store had one and that she was UPS’ing it my way!!!!! Man, these internets are powerful. I am so thankful/excited that Anna was so thoughtful and found me a Wii. I am still on the lookout for a Wii Fit, but have promised Anna that I will pay the Fit forward to her if I find 2 out there!!

the tracker says that my Wii should be here TOMORROW!!!! YIPPEEEEEEE!

Psyched out by a Wii!!

I still can’t believe it.

I am working from home today as I had a Orthodintist appointment this morning and I of course picked an Ortho that is like the exact opposite direction from the office. I have to rent a car to get there it is that far out. Anyway, every 6 weeks I do this: Ortho, grocery store, home (since I have the car). Today, I did: Ortho, Pets Smart (special EXPENSIVE cat food for Mr.), Sam’s Club (my twice yearly visit), Target (for an on- sale George Forman grill to make this –oh Roni, it sounds SO GOOD!!), grocery store, home.

While I was at Sam’s I noticed that there were 4 cardboard “cutouts” of the Wii – and no sign up that said “No Wii’s Today” like there is in every store when I look fo one.

Wait, I better give you some background…

When I was on vacation in Florida in June, my cousin mentioned that they were enjoying their Wii. I asked them when/how they got one, since here in Chicago it is like next to impossible to fine one, unless you want to pay 500+ for it. She said she walked into Wal-Mart and got one off the shelf- she had absolutely no problems finding one (they live in Alabama). I told her to be on the look out for one for me (along with the fa-bu new Wii Fit). I mentioned to my mom shortly after the trip that I was in the market for a new TV. She said she would give me $$ as a B-day/Christmas present to buy one that I liked.

Well, when the Direct TV people came to hook up my Tivo/VCR/TV/Receiver a few weeks ago, we realized my 11 year old 19inch TV was not gonna do – not enough connections for everything). So that day I went to Wal-Mart and bought a new Vizio 32 inch Flat Panel HDTV so I could get everything hooked up correctly (did you know it is next to impossible to find a “regular” TV anymore? It is pretty much flat panel or buy something used).

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the new TV. It is AWESOME– like I am watching everything on a movie screen even though I don’t have actual HD channels coming into the set from the reciever (I am too cheap to upgrade to the HD Receiver).

Anyway, my mom was kinda sad that I got the TV on my own, because “now what am I going to get you for your b-day/christmas??” I mentioned that I really wanted a Wii Fit/Wii and she said she would get me one. YIPPEE!!!

Though I grew up during “THE” time home video game systems became super popular, as a girl and an only child, I have never owned a game system of any type– yep, not even a gameboy or DS. I played them at friends houses, and LOVED Super Mario Brothers (especially SMB3).

I have been searching for a Wii since my mom said she would get me one. My cousin in Alabama is on the lookout and is authorized to buy one and ship it to me if she finds one. I have other friends on standby and also looking. I paruse the electronics section of every store I visit.  I have been to wiitracker.com and check multiple websites daily.

Back to Sam’s Club today: As soon as I saw the cardboard cutouts, I freaked the freak out and immediately called my mom to see if she was still serious about getting me the Wii for b-day/xmas. She was. I litterally SKIPPED -slash-FLOATED around Sam’s getting paper towels, TP, bottled water and ham steaks (see referenced link above).

I had to wait in the hellish Sam’s checkout line we have all come to love to hate, but that was OK, I  GOT A WII!!! I almost went back to get a second cutout so I could pay my luck forward and resell it at retail cost to someone else who has been looking FOREVER for a Wii- but I didn’t. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure if my bank account could handle the first Wii (since Sam’s only takes Debit cards and MASTERCARD, no Visa) let alond a second one. Anyway, I checked out in 2 transactions: Wii, and then the other stuff. My debit card came back warm, but thankfully the transactions cleared (both of them- I cannot seem to get out of Sam’s Club without spending over $150.00 every freaking time!) and asked where I needed to go to pick up the Wii. The very nice cashier told me to head to the customer service desk and they would get it out of the “cage”.

A sidenote here: I love that they keep expensive electronics in a “cage”. Like they are dangerous and will attack if provoked.

Anyway, when I got to the service desk there was, of course, another line. I patiently waited for my turn to pick up my SHINEY-NEW, HIGHLY COVETED Wii. As soon as I was at the front, I proudly presented my cardboard cutout and my reciept and said, loudly (for all the envoius shoppers to hear), “I need to pick up my Wii, please.”

Saleslady: “Oh, we don’t have any Wii’s in stock. Where did you get the cutout?”

(AJ’s internal voice: WHAT THE FUCK?)

AJ actually says: “What? There was no sign up and there are 4 of these cutouts over there. That usually means that you have Wii’s.”

Saleslady (oblivious to my crestfalleness): “Sorry, none in stock. Did you already pay for it? I can give you a refund here.”

(AJ’s internal voice: FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK. You have GOT to BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!!)

Aj’s actually says: “Oh, darnit! Yes, I would like a refund please. You might want to put your sign up so others are not dissapointed like me.”

I got my refund, and left the store. I wish I was a bit of a different person, because a better ending to the story would be me freaking out and DEMANDING a Wii and having to be carried out of the store kicking and screaming expalatives and threatening the staff and their families, but sadly, I am not that person.

I sooo cannot believe I was freakin’ psyched out by a Wii.

Musings from a Starbucks in the City

I am at Starbucks trying to get some reading for work done but this guy sitting across from me at a small work table (who is obviously Chinese as he is reading a Chinese-character newspaper) keeps LOUDLY clearing his throat and sniffing/snorting (as though he has a sinus infection). It is THE most annoying thing ever. I can’t move, because I have the only outlet in the joint for my computer… I keep giving him semi dirty looks. LOL. He is NOT getting the picture. I now have my iPod on blasting the Wicked Soundtrack to stop me from listening to it… I almost threw up a little in my mouth at one point it is so bad. AAAGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!

Edited to add: Sniffy finally freakin left. PEACE and QUIET PREVAIL.

I Raaaaaaaan…. and NSV’s

I have been feeling a bit “slacky” lately. Pasta has been my best firend the past few weeks, I have been SICK (fever, chills, horrible sore throat, the works) and work – well, everything at work has been super stressful the past few months. I have been staying stable at 190.8 (DAMNIT- SCALE MOVE!!) for the past 3 weeks. I have been slacking on going to my normal Tuesday night WW meeting and I haven’t been going to the grocery store for fresh food twice a week like I did when I was actively losing. SOOOO, I decided I need to post some Non Scale Victories for me too look at and realize that I am actualy doing something GOOD for my body. That I am accomplishing something even though I have hit a plateau.

So here they are- I no particular order:

  1. Ladies and gentlemen, I RAN tonight. I ran 5 intervals of 5 minutes (walk 1 minute, run 1 minute). No cheating, no stopping. I was not overly winded, and I actually feel GOOD. The inhaler is WORKING PEOPLE!!!
  2. People are really starting to notice that I am smaller than I have been in a LONG TIME.
  3. I keep hearing “Those pants are too big for you…
  4. I am realizing that bigger is not better when it comes to clothes. I have always thought that tight=scanky and while too tight + too tight + too much skin  DOES = scanky, clothing that fits the body actually makes you look thinner. I know Roni posted about that a LONG time ago on her photo pages, but I really had to see myself in mirrors and pictures (that are now long deleted) before I saw that it is really true.
  5. While I haven’t been going to weigh ins on my “normal” day and time (Tues PM right after work), I HAVE been going to WI’s at a different center on Wednesday AM or Thursday AM’s before work. I am proud that I have been keeping to my personal pact of “if you pay for it, you have to go” Monthly Pass mantra.
  6. Whie pasta, salt, cheese, FAST FOOD, and Chipotle have been calling on me a BIT too much lately, I have been able to keep my weight constant for the past few weeks. This is a first for me and I credit excercise, which is also a first for me.
  7. I have already mentioned this in an earlier post, but I Lance Armstrong came on my Nike+ the other day and told me I had beaten my fastest mile for the first time in like a year. I am proud of myself for pushing my body to get faster.
  8. I started training to walk my first 1/2 marathon 2 weeks ago. The Nike Women’s 1/2 Marathon in Chicago.  While illness this week set me back a few days, I still got back on the horse by stretching and hydrating– and I ran/walked tonight to get back on track.
  9. I signed up to walk the Nike Human Race 10K and will be participating August 31st. I challenge YOU to participate- walking, running, whatever if you can. You don’t even have to live in one of the cities participating if you have a Nike+ iPod attachment. Visit www.nike.com/nikeplus for more details or info.
  10. I have started realizing that Lane Bryant may be a store I no longer have to shop in. A few of my friends (who are also losing weight) have asked if I am in 14′s and if I want their clothes that no longer fit. Well, I am currently between a 14 and a 16, but I am no longer in a 18W or even a 16W. Clothing that fit me really well (or was a bit tight even) in May/June are really big on me now (16W/1X). HEY- If you are in a warm climate and need cute barely warn 16W/1X skorts, shorts, and shirts, please let me know. They are not designer, mostly Target, JC Penney and WalMart stuff but they are cute and not too “mom” looking. I am happy to ship them to you. Leave me a comment and I will email you back.

Well, I gotta get to bed, but this was actually a good thing. I needed to see some of my accomplishments written out. I challenge YOU to to the same if you are struggling.

Here’s to a GREAT OP week and a loss on the scales!

AJ

THUNDER!!!!!

Some crazy storms just went through the Chicagoland area—- WOW. I felt a couple of the lightning strikes- do you know what i mean by that? Tingling and hair standing up on my arms… all the car alarms in my neighborhood went off as the bolts hit. We had 70 mile an hour wind gusts and large hail, along with the tornado sirens going off in the city. I had never heard the sirens here before. they sould different than the ones in Iowa. It almost sonds like a police siren. Weird.

Anyway, I gotta go but thought I would stop in and say hi. I have been s l o w l y catching up on your blogs but the good thing is most of you are also slow to post this summer :-) Will be commenting soon on a blog near you soon!

AJ

PS: Has anyone heard how Dizzy is doing???? I am worried about her and the babies.
